Contemporary Art

What is contemporary art?

Contemporary art refers to avant-garde or innovative art created in the recent past or present day. The exact starting point of contemporary art varies depending on the institution, often tied to the founding year of museums or galleries that showcase the style. Contemporary art is characterized by its focus on current ideas, diverse media, and the exploration of new concepts and techniques.

Actionism

Viennese Actionism was a short-lived but intense art movement in the 20th century, emerging as part of the broader action art efforts of the 1960s. Known for its violent and provocative performances, the movement sought to break traditional art boundaries. Key figures in this movement included Arnulf Rainer and Hermann Nitsch.

Inkjet print

An inkjet printer creates prints by spraying millions of tiny ink droplets onto paper. This type of printing is generally inexpensive because the ink is relatively affordable. Artists can use computers to create digital art, which can then be printed in color using inkjet technology.

Print

A print is an image or text reproduced using a template or master form. Prints are typically created by transferring ink from a prepared matrix to another material, often paper. Common matrices include copper or zinc plates for etching and engraving, aluminum or stone for lithography, wood blocks for woodcuts, and linoleum for linocuts. The term print can also refer to a single impression made from the matrix.
