Jack Pierson

Celebrated for his evocative and often intimate depictions of the various stages of human life, Jack Pierson is a photographer, painter and installation artist – his Self-Portrait series is among his most acclaimed photography and features a range of male models photographed at different stages in life - from childhood to old age - to create an overall fake diaristic timeline of one man’s life. Asides from his photography, Pierson is known for his word sculptures; using various found objects such as road signs, or signs from old diners and junkyards, Pierson places the mismatched letters together to create a sign depicting a singular word or phrase that takes on an entirely new meaning – often vibrant in colour and emanating traces of the origins of the signage, these word sculptures carry references of both Minimalism and Pop. Alongside Mark Morrisroe and Nan Golding, Pierson is considered to be a member of Boston School, a photography club that began capturing casual and candid photographs of one another from the early 1980’s. (Artist website)
