Lorna Simpson

Original Signed Artworks & Limited Edition Prints For Sale

American conceptual photographer, video artist, and installation artist Lorna Simpson is well-known for her examinations of personal and racial history through her work. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and got her BFA and MFA from the School of Visual Arts and the University of California, San Diego, respectively.
Simpson often uses text and discovered photographs to comment on the cultural and political consequences of representation, and his works often question standard depictions of black identity and history. Her art prompts reflection on the interconnected nature of personal and cultural narratives, as well as the power of visual media in influencing such narratives.

In addition to the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Simpson's work has been included in numerous other prestigious institutions throughout the world. She has been recognized with a number of prestigious fellowships and prizes, such as the National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship, the MacDowe Coony Fellowship, and the Anonymous Was a Woman Award.
