- Robert Therrien
Robert Therrien is an artist inspired by memory. Evoking the term's simplest most familiar forms, he aims for the viewer to rethink the meaning behind ordinary objects like a table leg or a wooden dining set. Though based mainly on his childhood memories, Therrien leaves the objects' interpretation open-ended. Given the ambiguous subject, Robert Therrien incorporates from a variety of art-movements. Particularly early on, his pieces were influenced by Minimalism, Pop Art, and Conceptualism. Elements from all three are evident in Therrien's work through its simplicity, uncompromising presentation, and focus on being "back-to-the-basic" in a new way. As a result, Robert Therrien's vision leads him to use different types of mediums. While focusing on sculpting, other art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography have also been included by Therrien throughout his career. Thus Therrien demonstrates his art is only limited to the wide interpretation that memory could hold.
