'Olivia 2' by Alex Katz is a silkscreen measuring 101.6 × 137.2 cm, produced in 2025. Two views of the same face — one in three-quarter profile, one nearly frontal — are cropped tightly and set against a flat pale blue-grey ground. The warm amber skin tones are rendered in broad, unmodulated fields, with pink lips and dark drawn brows providing the only colour contrast. A dark brown ponytail bisects the composition vertically, anchoring the two figures. Katz has worked in large-scale silkscreen editions since the 1960s, applying the same formal economy he brought to his paintings: minimal shadow, deliberate flatness, and figures cropped to maximise graphic impact. The subject, Olivia, joins a long lineage of Katz portraits in which close cropping and scale transform an individual face into something closer to pure form.
