Literature: Axsom 106.4; Tyler 545. // From Tyler Graphics' ambitious Paper Relief Project, Frank Stella's Nowe Miastro (IV) presents a commanding sculptural collage in cast handmade paper with rough deckled edges. Interlocking angular forms — an architectural arrangement of deep crimson, soft pink, golden yellow, mottled blue-white, and pale cream — rise from the textured surface in pronounced three-dimensional relief. Each impression in the edition of twenty-six was uniquely hand-colored, making every sheet a singular variant. The work exemplifies Stella's mid-1970s drive to push printmaking beyond the flat picture plane into the domain of constructed objects.

What is lyrical abstraction ?

Lyrical abstraction is a descriptive term characterizing a type of abstract painting closely related to Abstract Expressionism, in use from the 1940s to the present. The term can also describe two distinct but related trends in post-World War II modernist painting. This art movement originated in Paris, France, after the war, emphasizing personal expression, spontaneity, and the emotional use of color and form.
