Lithograph, screenprint on white 350 gram Arches 88 mould-made paper - Signed, dated and numbered in pencil - From Exotic Bird Series - Published by Tyler Graphics Ltd, Bedford Village, New York // Frank Stella's Noguchi's Okinawa Woodpecker (1977) is a lithograph and screenprint from the Exotic Bird Series, characterized by its fluid abstract forms and delicate balance of color and line. The composition features bold, sweeping curves in shades of maroon, brown, and dark red, set against a textured background that evokes a sense of movement. A striking blue bar stretches horizontally across the lower section, providing a strong contrast to the more organic shapes above. The piece is framed by a soft, pale-colored border, which gives the central shapes a sense of depth and structure. Printed on white Arches 88 mould-made paper, this work was signed, dated, and numbered by Stella. Published by Tyler Graphics Ltd., this piece exemplifies Stella’s dynamic exploration of abstract forms and his ability to create harmony between color, line, and shape.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
