Frank Stella's Moultonville lithograph shows bold, irregular polygons in blue, red, yellow, and green with textured strokes.

Lithograph and screenprint on Arches 300 gram paper - Signed, dated and numbered in pencil - Published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles. - From Eccentric Polygon Series // Frank Stella's Moultonville (1974) from the Eccentric Polygon Series is a vibrant exploration of shape, color, and form. The artwork consists of irregular polygons arranged in a dynamic composition, with contrasting shades of navy blue, red, pale yellow, and mint green. These bold colors are outlined by clean lines, giving the impression of architectural or puzzle-like structures. The geometric forms are filled with textured, almost hand-drawn strokes, softening the rigid shapes while adding depth and movement. Created as a lithograph and screenprint on Arches paper, this piece reflects Stella’s interest in breaking traditional geometric boundaries. Signed, dated, and numbered in pencil, the print was produced by the Gemini G.E.L. studio in Los Angeles, known for its high-quality editions.

What is Systems Art?

Systems Art refers to a group of artists who, during the late 1960s and early 1970s, used the frameworks of conceptualism and minimalism to create art that was responsive to its environment. Rejecting traditional art themes, they embraced aesthetic systems and experimented with diverse media. Systems Art often connected with contemporary political movements of the time, emphasizing the interrelationship between the artwork, its context, and the broader social and political environment.
