Signed, dated and numbered - Printed and published by Gemini G.E.L. // Frank Stella's Six Mile Bottom from 1970, part of the Aluminium Series, is a lithograph that exemplifies his fascination with geometric abstraction and structured compositions. The piece features a central, vertically-oriented pattern of parallel lines that form an almost architectural shape, narrowing inward before expanding outward. Rendered in a subdued gray, the design contrasts sharply with the surrounding white space, emphasizing the print’s balance and precision. This linear arrangement creates a sense of depth and movement, drawing the viewer's eye toward the small rectangular center point. This lithograph, printed and published by Gemini G.E.L., is part of a limited edition of 75, with additional artist's proofs. Six Mile Bottom reflects Stella’s interest in minimalism and his exploration of spatial illusions within the constraints of geometric forms.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
