Lithograph on Zerkall Copperplate Deluxe paper - Signed, dated and numbered in pencil. Dry stamp. Ed.Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles (FS52-450) // Frank Stella's Leo Castell (1972) from the Purple Series is a lithograph that explores the interplay between geometric shapes and space. This artwork presents a dark purple triangle composed of concentric lines, each following the contours of the triangle’s form, creating a hypnotic visual effect. The empty, open space inside the triangle adds to the piece’s minimalist aesthetic. Stella’s precise use of form and repetition contrasts with the otherwise blank background, emphasizing the geometric purity of the triangle. Produced on Zerkall Copperplate Deluxe paper, the lithograph is signed, dated, and numbered in pencil, with the edition crafted by the renowned Gemini G.E.L. studio in Los Angeles.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
