Painting

What is a painting?

Painting is the process of applying media to a surface, using a tool such as a brush. The term refers to both the action and the resulting object. Artists use many tools to paint, such as brushes, airbrushes, palette knives, sponges or fingers and hands.

Uncanny

The Uncanny is a concept described by psychologist Sigmund Freud as the eerie or unsettling feeling that arises when something familiar is presented in a strange or unfamiliar way. Surrealist artists, who aimed to reveal the subconscious and merge it with reality, often utilized this concept by combining familiar objects in unexpected and bizarre ways. This approach created a sense of discomfort or unease, challenging the viewer's perception of reality.

Manifesto Invencionista

The Manifesto Invencionista was published in 1946, marking the beginning of the concrete art movement in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Written by artist Tomás Maldonado and published by the Asociación Arte Concreto-Invención, the manifesto announced the principles of Concrete Art. Concrete art is purely abstract, with no reference to visual reality, emphasizing geometric forms and the materiality of the artwork itself.

Watercolor

Watercolor refers to both the medium and the resulting artwork created using pigments suspended in a water-soluble vehicle. Watercolors are known for their luminous, transparent appearance because the pigments are applied in pure form with minimal fillers. By adding Chinese white, the watercolor can become opaque, resembling gouache.
