Zhao Bo

Original Signed Artworks & Limited Edition Prints For Sale

Zhao Bo is an artist who has an entirely unique and elite style. He belongs to a group of artists known as the "New Realists", and there is no question that his artwork differs from traditional realism in many different respects. First of all, Zhao Bo is fond of portraying his subjects in as colorful a light as possible. Overall, the subject matter may seem kind of stark and serious, but his use of shiny colors will totally bely it even if he is portraying the military or communist regalia.

« In this chaotic world, people are becoming sly, untruthful, preposterous, full of malicious symbols that are morphing and becoming conceptualized ...»
Zhao Bo
Of course, a lot of what you see in Zhao Bo's art is something of a clash. For instance, there is the clash of color or there is the clash of various shades. This is inherent in the world that Zhao Bo grew up in. Chongquing is his hometown, and it is one of the world's most populous cities. It is here that Zhao Bo embraced his new generation, and unlike his parents he is living in somewhat of a post-political world. This is definitely reflected in his art.

What is Chinese contemporary art?

What is Chinese contemporary art?

Chinese Contemporary art is characterized by a profusion of styles and experimental tendencies. Avant- garde exhibitions in the 1980s were closed by government officials, while 1990s political pop and cynical realism emerged. China’s One Child policy also inspired the individual as subject matter.
