'Vaar from the album Diam' by Victor Vasarely is a serigraph measuring 70 × 62 cm, hand-signed and from a numbered edition. Against a deep navy ground, a grid of small squares in red, lavender, green, blue, and teal is organised into interlocking isometric cube formations — two large receding masses flanking a central raised column — producing a sustained oscillation between convex and concave readings of the same surface. Vasarely, widely recognised as the leading figure of Op Art, built his practice on precisely this principle: that colourful geometric units, systematically arranged, could generate convincing spatial illusions without any representational content. The 1988 'Diam' album situates 'Vaar' within his mature printed output, where the screenprint medium's flat, registration-precise colour fields were essential to achieving the perceptual consistency the compositions demanded.
