Interlocking rectangular planes fold and overlap into a shifting axonometric structure, an architecture that seems to build and dissolve as the eye travels. Drawn during the formative years in the Provencal village of Gordes that named the series, this 1948 etching captures the precise moment geometry began to overtake nature in his vision.
