Speed Skater (from Art and Sports Portfolio)

Andy Warhol The Marx Brothers screenprint showing colorful, repeated portraits of Groucho, Harpo, and Chico in bold red, blue, and gray.

Original serigraph in colors on lenox museum board. - Published by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Inc., New York, and Jonathan A Editions. - From "Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century" - Hand signed and numbered by Andy Warhol . The Marx Brothers (1980) by Andy Warhol is a screenprint on Lenox Museum Board that presents multiple, stylized portraits of the famous comedic siblings: Groucho, Harpo, and Chico Marx. Warhol repeats and colorizes their iconic images using vibrant reds, blues, and grays, blending humor with Pop Art's characteristic boldness. Through repetition and vivid color shifts, Warhol captures the chaotic, exaggerated energy that defined the Marx Brothers' legacy in film and stage. The work reflects Warhol's ongoing fascination with celebrity culture and mass media.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
