Andy Warhol’s Paloma Picasso screen print, portrait with black-and-white dots, layered with green, blue, and red color blocks.

Original screen print in colors on Arches - Signed and numbered in pencil, verso - Published by Propyl en-Verlag, Berlin and Pantheon Press, Rome - Suite: America’s Hommage a Picasso - Literature: Feldman and Shellmann II.121 // This screen print by Andy Warhol, titled Paloma Picasso, is a limited edition from the series America’s Hommage à Picasso. The work features a stylized portrait of Paloma Picasso, the daughter of the famous artist Pablo Picasso, rendered in Warhol’s signature pop art style. The black-and-white dotted image of her face is partially obscured by large, overlapping geometric blocks of color in green, blue, and red. These color blocks create a playful tension between abstraction and figuration, a recurring theme in Warhol’s works. Signed and numbered, the print reflects Warhol’s exploration of fame, identity, and the intersection of art and celebrity culture.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
