Andy Warhol George Gershwin trial proof screenprint with bold colour blocks in mauve, green, and gold over portrait.

Unique trial proof. Screen print on Lenox Museum Board. Published by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Inc., New York and Jonathan A Editions, Tel Aviv, Israel. Signed and numbered in pencil. From the Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century portfolio. George Gershwin (Trial Proof) from Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century (1980) by Andy Warhol is a vibrant homage to the iconic American composer. Executed as a rare trial proof, this screenprint reveals Warhol’s signature approach of combining bold colour blocking with silkscreen techniques to reimagine portraiture. The overlapping planes of mauve, green, and gold animate Gershwin’s profile, blending glamour with modernist abstraction. Published by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts and Jonathan A Editions, this unique piece underscores Warhol’s fascination with celebrity and cultural legacy, celebrating Gershwin’s enduring impact on music and American culture.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
