This screenprint in colors was created in 1995. Hand-signed by the artist and numbered, from the edition of 150 measuring 36 x 20 in. (91.5 x 51 cm.). // Pas de Deux IV by Alex Katz is a 1995 screen print that captures a moment of subtle intimacy between two figures. Rendered in Katz’s signature flat, graphic style, the composition features a man and a woman, with the man leaning in closely, his face partially obscured as he whispers to her. The woman, with blonde hair and a patterned jacket, gazes outward, her expression calm and introspective. The use of minimal color and clean lines emphasizes the quiet mood and elegance of the scene. Katz’s work often explores the nuances of human relationships and the understated beauty of everyday moments, and Pas de Deux IV exemplifies this theme with its poised simplicity. The print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist, in a limited edition of 150.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
