Screenprint in colors on J.B. Green paper. Initialed in pencil and numbered. Published by Marlborough Graphics Inc., New York, and printed by Kelpra Studio, London, bearing the artist’s blindstamp. Literature: Engberg/Banach 79-88. Image: 56.5 × 43.5 cm (22 1/4 × 17 1/8 in). Sheet: 103.5 × 71.8 cm (40 3/4 × 28 1/4 in). // Untitled 3 presents one of the suite's most imposing compositions: a dense black rectangular mass with dripping, visceral edges dominates the sheet, its surface broken by a central aperture that reveals a smaller dark rectangle within — a window looking into deeper darkness. A chimney-like protrusion rises from the upper right, lending the form an almost fortified architectural character. At the base, a bright green horizontal bar provides the sole chromatic relief, grounding the brooding black structure. The nearly monochrome palette intensifies the plate's solemn weight. Printed on J.B.

What is lyrical abstraction ?
Lyrical abstraction is a descriptive term characterizing a type of abstract painting closely related to Abstract Expressionism, in use from the 1940s to the present. The term can also describe two distinct but related trends in post-World War II modernist painting. This art movement originated in Paris, France, after the war, emphasizing personal expression, spontaneity, and the emotional use of color and form.
