Andy Warhol's Apples from Space Fruit: Still Lifes, serigraph, floating red apples with teal shapes on a light yellow background.

Original serigraph in colors on Lenox Museum Board - Published by Grippi Zivian, Inc., New York // Apples from Space Fruit: Still Lifes by Andy Warhol, created in 1979, is a limited edition serigraph that showcases Warhol's playful and modern take on still life. In this print, Warhol presents a composition of floating apples, rendered in bold red and black hues, with overlapping shapes of teal and a light yellow background. The exaggerated and abstract forms, outlined with thick black lines, give the apples a surreal, almost weightless appearance, as though they are suspended in space. Warhol's use of vibrant colors and contrasting shapes embodies his signature pop art aesthetic, where ordinary objects are transformed into visually compelling subjects. The print exemplifies his fascination with consumer culture, still life, and the blending of fine art with commercial imagery.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
