Abstract art

What is abstract art?

Abstract art uses form, shape, line, and color to create a visual experience without attempting to represent external reality. The composition exists independently of the world's visual references, focusing on expressing ideas and emotions through non-representational means.

Mail art

Mail Art is a populist art movement centered on the creation and exchange of small-scale artworks through the postal service. It developed out of the Fluxus movement in the 1950s and 1960s and has since evolved into a global art movement. Ray Johnson is recognized as the first mail artist, and his New York School is considered the first network of mail artists. Mail artists rely heavily on a network to exchange their works, often creating a community of artists connected through the postal system.

Assemblage

Assemblage is an artistic process involving the combination of three-dimensional objects to create a work of art. The term, which originates from the French word for assembly, often involves the use of found objects like leaves, stones, discarded items, or recycled materials. These objects are arranged creatively to form a unique and often thought-provoking artwork.

Matter painting

Matter painting is a technique that involves blending thick impasto paints with materials like cement, mud, sand, or shells. The term first emerged in the 1950s to describe the works of Belgian and Dutch painters who explored the physical properties of painting materials and the different ways paint could be manipulated. This approach emphasizes texture and the tactile qualities of the surface, creating a sculptural effect on the canvas.
