Arnaldo Pomodoro

Original Signed Artworks & Limited Edition Prints For Sale

Arnoldo Pomodoro is an Italian sculptor who is responsible for designing a controversial fiberglass crucifix. The piece is topped with a fourteen foot crown of thorns that hovers over the figure of Christ. As a sculptor, Arnoldo Pomodora believes when his work transforms the place in which it sits, it takes on the demeanour of a true witness.

« All metals fascinate me. I have used lead, tin, iron, copper, silver, and, in particular, bronze, which I prefer glossy and uncoated. »
Arnoldo Pomodoro
He considers his sculptors crystals or eyes and sees them as borders and voyages to worlds of imagination.

« The artist looks for himself deep inside: he is pressed by emotions and feelings, with an intention to rid himself of his anguish and to feel liberated while doing his work. »
Arnoldo Pomodoro

Since the 70's, Pomodora continued to be known for his fundamental geometric shapes, using a lot of column, cubes, pyramid, sphere and disc shapes. His forms which are massive in size, suggest continual process of self-destruction and regeneration. (Artist website)

What is Figuration Libre?

What is Figuration Libre?

This is an art movement equivalent to the French Bad Painting and the Neo-expressionism in Europe and America. This art term was coined by Ben Vautier and Fluxus. Robert Combas, Francois Boisrond, Herve Di Rosa and Remi Blanchard formed the Figuration Libre group back in 1981. This art term can be interpreted as "free style" art.
