Highly recognised for his multi-faceted approach to art, Günther Förg has created work through the mediums of sculpture, painting, photography and printmaking and often combines these mediums to reach his final output. Förg has worked with a number of materials throughout his career;

Günther Förg
Alubilder is a series of work for which he had painted portrait photographs and linear patters on to sheets of aluminium; Förg also created a series of Lead Paintings - for this work, he wrapped lead sheets around wood and painted each individual surface with acrylic.

« I think painting is a resilient practice; if you look through the history of painting it doesn’t change so much and we always see it in the present.
It is still now. »

Günther Förg

Förg also received acclaim for his photography – between 1980 and 2006, he traveled the world and captured various architectural sites which were then printed on a large scale; the sites were often politically symbolical – Bauhaus structures in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv a Read More

What is minimalism?

What is minimalism?

Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
