Sol LeWitt Ohne Titel Blue Square serigraph with large monochrome blue square framed by white and black borders

Original serigraph on paper - Published by Parasol Press Ltd. New York - Suite: Four x Four x Four - Hand signed by LeWitt Ohne Titel Blue Square by Sol LeWitt is a 1990 serigraph created as part of the portfolio Four x Four x Four, published by Parasol Press Ltd. in New York. The composition presents a large, monochromatic blue square centered within a series of clean white and black borders. At first glance the image appears minimal and uniform, yet the surface reveals subtle variations produced by fine printed lines that create a quiet optical vibration. LeWitt, a central figure in conceptual and minimal art, often explored systematic structures and simple geometric forms. In this work, the square becomes both subject and system, emphasizing balance, proportion, and perception. Hand signed by the artist, the print measures approximately 121 × 121 cm and was produced in an edition of 100.

What is minimalism?

Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
