The triptych features bold yellow lily pads set against a deep black background, with delicate white water lilies scattered across the panels. Katz’s use of flat, saturated color contrasts with the soft elegance of the floral forms, combining abstraction with a nod to nature. The two side panels measure 117 x 39 cm, while the central panel measures 117 x 59 cm, resulting in total dimensions of 117 x 137 cm. The archival pigment print is created on Innova Cotton Rag 315 gsm fine art paper and is signed by Katz on the middle panel. This modern homage blends simplicity, elegance, and a contemporary edge, evoking Monet’s iconic water lilies with a minimalist approach.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
