Lithograph printed in color on Arches paper - Co-published by Brooke Alexander, New York, and Marlborough Graphics, New York - Literature: Klaus Albrecht Schröder 83 // Alex Katz’s Dog at Ducktrap (1975) is a vibrant lithograph that captures a serene outdoor scene featuring a shaggy dog at the center. The dog, with its long, flowing fur, sits in tall, green grass, its tongue out in a relaxed manner. Behind the animal, Katz renders a tranquil landscape of water, distant trees, and hills, using bold, flat areas of color typical of his style. The sharp contrast between the detailed texture of the dog’s fur and the smoothness of the background creates an engaging composition, highlighting Katz’s focus on simplicity and elegance in everyday moments.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
