Alex Katz, Ada x 2, 2020, archival pigment print featuring two portraits of a woman with sunglasses, one grayscale, one in yellow tones.

Archival pigment ink on Innova Etching Cotton Rag 315 gsm fine art paper - Hand-signed by artist // Alex Katz’s Ada x 2 (2020) is a captivating archival pigment print that features a dual portrait of his muse and wife, Ada. The artwork displays two adjacent images, one in grayscale and the other in vibrant yellow tones, highlighting Katz’s signature flat aesthetic and exploration of color contrast. Ada, wearing sunglasses, exudes a calm and modern presence. Katz’s minimalist approach is evident through the bold, simplified shapes and limited palette, emphasizing the elegance of his muse. What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
