- Original screenprint in colors on wove paper - Signed, dated and numbered in pencil // Pop Shop IV (d) by Keith Haring, created in 1989, is a vibrant screen-print that captures Haring’s iconic visual language of bold lines, bright colors, and simplified figures. The composition features two stylized red dogs facing each other, with black marks between them suggesting barking or communication. The background is divided into a bright yellow upper section and a dotted brown lower section, creating a playful contrast. Haring’s use of thick black outlines and flat, saturated colors is characteristic of his Pop Art style, blending elements of street art and graphic design. What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
