Julio Le Parc Dessin Infinie 7, 2022, marker drawing with colorful intersecting lines bending diagonally, creating dynamic angular shapes.

// Julio Le Parc's Dessin Infinie 7 (2022) is a minimalist exploration of line and form using colorful markers. The composition features five intersecting lines—purple, blue, red, orange, and green—each bending sharply and extending diagonally across the paper. The lines converge and diverge, creating a dynamic and angular structure that draws the viewer’s eye through the space. The simplicity of the lines contrasts with the complexity of their intersections, emphasizing movement and rhythm. This piece captures Le Parc’s ongoing interest in optical art, as the arrangement of lines invites contemplation of perspective, balance, and the illusion of depth.

What is kinetic art?

Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
