Oeuvre Infinie, 2021

Recognised as one of the forefathers of Kinetic Art, Julio Le Parc worked across the disciplines of installation, sculpture and painting. Often illusory in nature, Le Parc described his creations as a “disturbance in the artistic system.” Alchemy 175 and 216 were among his most notable works — described as a tribute to science, the pieces employed water by depicting fountains sprinkling in an umbrella formation, while light further enhanced the movement and altered the viewer’s perception. Among Le Parc’s early inspirations were the works of Victor Vasarely and the writings of Piet Mondrian. His earliest creations were geometric abstractions, first in black and white and later in colour. With the creation of his Continual Mobiles, the artist transitioned into three-dimensional works incorporating pulsating light, distorting mirrors and movement. (Artist website)
