Lenticular acrylic panel in a brushed aluminium frame, specified by the artist.
Hand-signed and numbered on the reverse.
'Malia from Children Walking' by Julian Opie is an installation measuring 79.8 × 48.9 × 2.5 cm. A child figure, rendered in Opie's signature flat, bold-outlined style, is shown in side profile mid-stride against a blush-pink ground. Her hair is pulled into a bun, her torso dressed in a pale green top and blue shorts, with bare brown legs below. The shallow depth of the work — just 2.5 cm — suggests a wall-mounted panel or layered construction rather than a conventional framed print, and the ghost-like trailing repetitions of the lower body convey motion without animation. Opie emerged from the New British Sculpture movement and has long synthesised influences from classical portraiture, Japanese woodblock prints, and commercial signage into a visual language that strips the figure to its most legible form.

What is Hard Edge Art?
Hard Edge art is a style of abstract painting that became popular in the 1960s. It features areas of color separated by crisp, sharp edges that are painted with geometric precision. The term hard-edge painting was coined by art critic Jules Langsner to describe this approach, which contrasts with the softer, more fluid forms of other abstract styles.
