'Alexander' by Julian Opie is an installation measuring 83.8 × 55.2 cm. A single figure, rendered in Opie's signature bold black outlines and flat colour fills of teal, brown, and pale flesh tones, strides across a uniform pink ground. The figure's form is multiplied and layered — semi-transparent ghosts of the same walking pose fan out in striped, muted tones, creating a stroboscopic record of a single stride. Opie is associated with the New British Sculpture movement and has long distilled figuration to its most economical elements, drawing on Japanese woodblock prints, classical portraiture, and the visual shorthand of street signage. 'Alexander' applies that reductive language to the question of movement itself, using repetition and transparency to fix a body in motion without narrative or setting.
