'Eliza from Children Walking' by Julian Opie is an installation measuring 72.4 × 44.2 × 2.5 cm, presenting a side-profile figure rendered in his signature reduced graphic style: bold black outlines enclosing flat fields of pale pink, dusty blue, and warm ochre, set against a cool mint-white ground. The figure — a child mid-stride, faceless, hair loosely pulled back — is built from thick, flowing contour lines that multiply and bleed at the edges, producing a faint motion-blur effect across the legs and trailing arm. Opie's practice draws on Japanese woodblock printing, classical portraiture, and billboard graphics, stripping figures down to their most legible silhouette. The 'Children Walking' series channels this reductive method toward everyday, unheroic subjects, presenting anonymised childhood movement with the same formal weight he applies to adult portraits.
