Signed Arman. Also signed and numbered on label verso. Published by Harlen Associated Limited. Iron and wood mounted on plywood, 97 x 76 cm including frame. // Cavaquinho by Arman Fernandez, created in 2002, is a sculptural composition featuring multiple miniature guitar-like shapes arranged in a layered, overlapping manner. Made from iron and wood, each instrument’s body is rendered in warm, earthy tones, contrasting against a dark background. The repeated guitars, with their necks and frets aligned in varying directions, convey movement and rhythm, reminiscent of music itself. This piece exemplifies Arman's fascination with musical instruments as a motif, using repetition and assemblage to celebrate the essence of sound and rhythm in visual form, evoking a lively, harmonious interplay.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
