Antonio Saura Moi, Planche 8 serigraph with abstract distorted face in black and white with chaotic lines conveying psychological depth.

// Moi, Planche 8 by Antonio Saura is a serigraph from 1976, showcasing the artist's intense and expressive style. The composition centers on an abstract, distorted face rendered in bold black and white contrasts, with chaotic lines and shapes layered across the features. Saura’s raw, gestural marks evoke a visceral, almost unsettling energy, emphasizing themes of inner turmoil and identity. The use of dark, sweeping strokes gives the piece a haunting quality, while the distorted facial elements convey a fragmented sense of self. Saura’s work often explores psychological depth, and this piece is a powerful example of his exploration of the human psyche.

What is Surrealism?

Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
