Original lithograph printed in colors from four aluminum plates on BFK Rives wove paper. Trial proof, one of only five such proofs, apart from the numbered edition of 18, inscribed in pencil. Published by The Litho Shop, Inc., Santa Monica; printed by Hitoshi Takatsuki at the Litho Shop. Sheet size: 63.5 x 90.2 cm (25 x 35 1/2 in) Image size: 63.5 x 90.2 cm (25 x 35 1/2 in) Frame size: 78.4 x 104.1 x 4.4 cm (30 7/8 x 41 x 1 3/4 in)// Another Footprint is an early-seventies lithograph that captures the lyrical openness of Sam Francis's middle-period abstractions. Printed in luminous colours from four aluminium plates on BFK Rives wove paper, the composition scatters jewel-toned passages of blue, red, yellow, and green across a generous expanse of white, allowing each chromatic mark to breathe within the open field. As a trial proof — one of only five such proofs apart from the numbered edition of eighteen — this impression carries the freshness of an artist still testing the balance between colour event and surrounding void. The result is a work of buoyant, light-filled energy that exemplifies why Francis's prints are prized by collectors worldwide.

What is Tachisme?
Tachisme is a French abstract painting style that gained popularity between 1940 and 1950, often seen as the European counterpart to Abstract Expressionism. However, there are stylistic differences between the two. Tachisme, which emerged from Art Informel, rejected geometric abstraction in favor of more intuitive and spontaneous expression. It was a reaction against the structured forms of Cubism and is closely related to Informalism. Tachisme emphasizes gestural brushwork, irregular forms, and a focus on the process of painting itself.
