Stamped by Empreinte Originale de Picasso and Madoura Plein Feu Manufacturer: Madoura, Vallauris Pablo Picasso’s Visage de Faune Tourmenté (1956) is a ceramic plate produced at the Madoura workshop in Vallauris, where he explored clay as a sculptural and graphic medium. The circular surface is animated by a relief image of a faun’s face, its features exaggerated and expressive, surrounded by radiating, almost sun-like motifs. The white glaze emphasizes texture and shadow, allowing the incised and modeled forms to emerge through subtle variations in light. Numbered from an edition of 100 and stamped Empreinte Originale de Picasso, the work reflects Picasso’s fascination with mythological imagery and his inventive approach to ceramics as both object and image.
