Linocut in colors on Arches paper, signed in pencil and numbered. - Published/printed by Arnéra, Vallauris. - Catalogue: Bloch 1299 - Images size: 25 1/4 x 20 7/8in (64.1 x 53 cm) - Sheet size: 29 3/4 x 24 3/8in (75.5 x 62.5 cm) Pablo Picasso’s Exposition Vallauris 1962 is a linocut poster designed to promote the ceramic exhibition in Vallauris, a French town renowned for its pottery. Picasso, who lived and worked in Vallauris during the late 1940s and 1950s, played a key role in revitalizing the region's ceramic tradition. The artwork features bold, hand-drawn lettering in vibrant yellow against a deep brown background, evoking the texture of fired clay. Below the text, three simplified, stylized pottery forms—a jar, a bottle, and a cup—represent the essence of Vallauris craftsmanship. This linocut was printed on Arches paper in an edition of 175, with an additional 25 artist's proofs. It was published and printed by Arnéra, Vallauris, a workshop closely associated with Picasso’s linocut works. The poster exemplifies Picasso’s mastery of the linocut technique, using a raw and expressive style that reflects his deep engagement with traditional and folk art forms.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
