This limited edition print is hand-signed by Picasso in red pencil on the lower left. The composition features a bust of a woman in profile, wearing a checkered blouse, rendered in Picasso’s characteristic style. The use of strong, expressive lines and the soft shading of the figure’s face and clothing demonstrate Picasso’s mastery of lithographic techniques. The detailed depiction of the woman’s facial features and the texture of her clothing bring depth and realism to the work, while still maintaining the boldness and abstraction often found in Picasso’s portraits. This print was produced by Atelier Mourlot in Paris, a renowned studio that frequently worked with Picasso, and it was published by Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris. It is documented in several art catalogues, including Mourlot 308, Bloch 849, and Reuße 734. This piece is a fine example of Picasso’s ability to convey emotion and character through minimal yet impactful strokes.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
