Embossed prints, on Eskulan paper, with accompanying text sheet. Signed, dated, and numbered. Co-published by Dorothea van der Koelen, Mainz and Edouard Weiss, Paris. Literature: Van der Koelen, Dorothea and Martin (eds.): Günther Uecker - Opus Liber, Directory of Bibliophile Books and Works, Mainz 2007, Cat. No. L 0203, ill. pp. 507-511. Graphein I, Gedächtnis des Tons (2002) by Günther Uecker is the first in his evocative Graphein series—an exploration of writing, memory, and material presence—realized through embossing on handmade Eskulan paper. The print features a grid-like field of raised dots, subtly disrupted on the right side by a wave-like curve, suggesting resonance, vibration, or the trace of a sound. The title, Memory of Clay, hints at the elemental and archival nature of the medium, evoking ancient writing tablets and the imprint of time upon matter. Uecker's use of relief instead of ink transforms the act of viewing into one of tactile engagement, where the image is revealed through shadow and texture. This minimalist composition combines simplicity with profound meditative depth. Published in an edition of 120, plus additional artist’s copies, and co-produced by Dorothea van der Koelen in Mainz and Edouard Weiss in Paris, this work stands as a poetic and sensory invocation of memory, inscription, and the invisible.

What is Found Object?
A found object is a term used to describe a man-made or natural object, or a fragment of one, that an artist discovers or purchases and keeps for inspiration or as a work of art. The artist may also modify the object or incorporate it into a collage or assemblage, transforming it into a new piece of art.
