Chromogenic print mounted on aluminium. Numbered and with a publisher sticker, recto, not signed. Bouquet by Gerhard Richter, created in 2014, is a chromogenic print mounted on aluminium, measuring 60 × 88.5 cm, from an edition of 500. This work draws from Richter’s well-known Abstraktes Bild series, where blurred photographic realism collides with expressive painterly gestures. In Bouquet, traces of floral forms emerge from beneath veils of smeared reds, oranges, and greens, simultaneously suggesting a still life and its dissolution. The drag marks and horizontal strokes reflect Richter’s technique of pulling pigment across the surface, erasing and revealing in a single motion. The result is a vibrant, meditative interplay between representation and abstraction.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
