Roy Lichtenstein’s Interior with Chair screen print featuring bold lines, flat colors, and dots, depicting a simple room with a chair and window.

Screenprint on 300-gram Somerset textured paper // Roy Lichtenstein’s Interior with Chair from the Leo Castelli 90th Birthday Portfolio (1997) is a limited edition screen print that exemplifies his signature pop art style, combining bold lines, flat colors, and Ben-Day dots. The composition depicts a simple interior scene with a chair, dresser, and window, stylized in Lichtenstein’s iconic comic strip aesthetic. The use of geometric shapes and primary colors—yellow, blue, red, and black—emphasizes the flatness of the scene, creating a sense of both abstraction and realism. The dots and clean lines add a graphic quality to the work, evoking a modern, yet timeless exploration of space and objects. This piece pays homage to everyday interiors while reflecting Lichtenstein's deep engagement with popular imagery and design.

What is site specific art?

Site-Specific Art is a form of artwork created to exist in a particular location, with the artist considering the site as an integral part of the creative process. Robert Irwin was a key figure in promoting this art form in California. Site-Specific Art emerged as a reaction against modernist objects, which were often portable, commodified, and confined to museum spaces. In contrast, Site-Specific Art is inherently tied to its location, challenging the traditional notions of art as a transportable and marketable commodity.
