The scene depicts a painter at work on the nape of his young model's neck, a motif that belongs to Picasso's lifelong meditation on the relationship between the artist, his model, and desire. Executed in aquatint with sugar lift on vélin de Rives paper, the image combines intimate observation with the playful, erotic energy of his late work. Printed by Aldo and Piero Crommelynck and published by Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris in 1969, it is catalogued as Bloch 1668 / Baer 1684.
