Published by Tériade Editeur, Paris. // Passage du Jourdain is a rare first-state etching by Marc Chagall, created in 1956 in an extremely limited edition of only five to ten impressions. Unlike Chagall's contemporaneous lithographs, this work achieves a remarkable tonal depth through the etching process, filling the scene of the Israelites crossing the Jordan with atmospheric texture and dramatic light. An angel hovers above the procession, guiding the figures through a richly detailed landscape. Signed in the plate, this exceptional sheet is a prized rarity within Chagall's biblical oeuvre.

What is Cubism?

Cubism is an art movement that aimed to depict multiple perspectives of objects or figures within a single picture. Artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso pioneered this style around 1907. The name Cubism emerged from their use of geometric shapes and outlines that often resembled cubes, breaking objects down into abstracted forms.
