Lithograph in Colors on Arches Wove Paper. Signed in pencil lower right and numbered. From Drawings for the Bible portfolio. Printed by Mourlot, published by Verve, Paris. Literature: MOURLOT, 254. // Job in Despair is a deeply affecting lithograph from Marc Chagall's Drawings for the Bible portfolio, printed by Mourlot in Paris in 1960. Steeped in magenta, green, and black, the composition shows the biblical patriarch hunched forward in anguish, his green-tinged face bowed over clasped hands while a voluminous robe envelops him in rich pink folds. A small angelic figure hovers in the upper left, offering a glimmer of divine presence amid the surrounding darkness. Chagall's fluid lithographic line merges expressionist emotion with the mystical symbolism that defined his sacred subjects.

What is Cubism?
Cubism is an art movement that aimed to depict multiple perspectives of objects or figures within a single picture. Artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso pioneered this style around 1907. The name Cubism emerged from their use of geometric shapes and outlines that often resembled cubes, breaking objects down into abstracted forms.
