Suite: Passage de l'egyptienne’ (The Egyptian Woman Passes) - Etching and Aquatint on Japan Nacré Paper - Literature: 1. Dupin, J. (2001). Miró Engraver, Vol. IV 1976-1983. Paris: Éditeur Daniel Lelong. - Reference: Dupin 1191 - Cataloging number: 257. Listed on page 626 of Miró: Catalogue des Livres Ilustrées. Patrick Cramer. 1989. // Passage De L'Egyptienne, 10 by Joan Miró, created in 1985, is a limited edition etching and aquatint on Japan Nacré paper. This piece, part of the Passage de l'Egyptienne suite, merges Miró’s symbolic abstract forms with vibrant colors, including bold red, blue, yellow, and green shapes set against a textured, neutral background. Delicate black lines traverse the composition, leading the eye in a flowing, almost hieroglyphic-like manner, possibly alluding to Egyptian themes as the title suggests. However, Miró’s abstract style resists literal interpretation, inviting viewers to imagine a narrative within the interplay of color and line. This work captures Miró’s continued exploration of mythological and mystical motifs.

What is dada?
Also known as Dadaism, Dada was a literary and artistic movement that began in 1916 in Zurich, Switzerland. It emerged as a rejection of rationalism and nationalism, which were seen as contributing factors to World War I. The movement had political undertones and was strongly anti-war. Dada activities included demonstrations, gatherings, and the publication of literary and art journals that explored cultural and political topics.
