Acrylic on wooden artist’s palette - Signed // Untitled - Artist Palette with Heart in Red by Jim Dine, created in 1986, is a mixed media piece featuring acrylic paint on a wooden artist’s palette. The central focus of the composition is a bold red heart painted in vibrant, expressive strokes, which is placed on the upper section of the palette. Below the heart, a small white rectangular patch adds balance and contrast to the warm wooden surface. Dine, known for his exploration of everyday objects as symbols of personal and emotional expression, uses the artist’s palette here as both a literal and symbolic canvas for the heart motif, a recurring theme in his work. The combination of the functional palette with the deeply expressive heart creates a connection between the act of creation and the personal, emotional experience of the artist. Signed by Dine, this piece encapsulates his unique approach to blending common objects with deeper artistic meaning.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
