Lithograph and screenprint in colors with silver foil on wove paper // Horse Blinders (South) by James Rosenquist is a dynamic and abstract composition that combines lithography and screen-printing techniques with vibrant colors and silver foil. The artwork is divided into multiple sections, each with its own distinct visual element, creating a fragmented yet cohesive piece. The left section features a rounded, almost organic form in gradient tones, while the central portion displays a bordered, soft-colored rectangle, and the right segment showcases sharp, linear metallic surfaces with geometric details. The use of silver foil adds a reflective quality that enhances the interplay between light and surface. Rosenquist’s work often blends abstraction with imagery that hints at consumerism, technology, and modernity, and Horse Blinders (South) exemplifies this mix of bold, modernist aesthetics.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
