Sculpture with 3 colored plates. Signed at the bottom. // Transchromie à 3 plaques by Carlos Cruz-Diez, created in 2011, is a sculptural exploration of color interaction and transparency. This piece comprises three upright colored acrylic plates—green, pink, and orange—arranged in close proximity to each other on a black base. As light passes through these translucent plates, the colors overlap, creating an array of shifting hues and blending effects that change depending on the viewer’s perspective. This interactive play of color and light is central to Cruz-Diez's work, as he investigates how colors can transform and interact dynamically within a single piece. Standing at 54 cm tall and limited to an edition of 75, each sculpture is signed by the artist, highlighting Cruz-Diez’s innovative approach to color theory and perceptual art.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
