// Carlos Cruz-Diez’s Induction Chromatique à Double Fréquence, Série Orinoco 1, crafted in 2018, presents a refined exploration of color dynamics and visual perception through the medium of optical art. Limited to an edition of 75, this lithograph features vertical bands in warm hues of orange and tan interlaced with cool blues, creating a harmonious yet oscillating visual effect. The alignment and subtle gradient shifts in these bands foster a sense of movement and depth, where colors appear to vibrate and transition based on the viewer’s position and perspective. Cruz-Diez’s meticulous use of color as an independent entity draws viewers into an interactive experience, challenging traditional concepts of static art. The artwork exemplifies his commitment to revealing the mutable and immersive qualities of color, turning the act of viewing into an evolving and dynamic encounter.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
